In August 2022, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency announced a grant to VAO Energy Co., Ltd. for a feasibility study of a large plastic recycling facility in Thailand.

The study was intended to support the development of a facility that would use high-temperature pyrolysis to process plastic waste into pyrolysis oil. The proposed approach would offer another route for plastic that is difficult to recycle mechanically.

USTDA described the project as part of its support for Thailand's waste management goals and Bio-Circular-Green economic model. At the time of the announcement, the facility was in the feasibility-study stage.
